Declined Payment

Updated on Mar 02, 2026

If your payment was declined, it does not always mean there is a problem with your card. Payment declines are typically triggered by your bank or payment provider for security reasons.

Common Reasons for Payment Declines

  • Billing address does not match the card on file
  • Insufficient funds
  • Card expired
  • Incorrect card number, CVV, or expiration date
  • Bank blocked the transaction for security reasons
  • International transaction restrictions
  • Daily spending limit reached

Billing Address Mismatch

Your billing address must match exactly what your bank has on file for your card.

Even small differences such as missing apartment numbers or incorrect postal codes can cause a decline.

Bank Security Blocks

Banks may automatically block transactions that appear unusual, especially:

  • Online purchases
  • International transactions
  • Higher-than-normal order amounts
  • Multiple rapid purchase attempts

If this happens, you may need to contact your bank directly to authorize the charge.

Using Sezzle or Afterpay

If your installment payment was declined, approval decisions are made directly by Sezzle or Afterpay.

You must contact the provider for details regarding their approval criteria.

How to Resolve a Declined Payment

  • Double-check your card details.
  • Confirm your billing address matches your bank records.
  • Contact your bank to approve the transaction.
  • Try an alternate payment method if available.

Important

We do not receive specific decline codes from banks, and we are unable to manually override a declined payment.

If your card is declined, your bank is the fastest source of resolution.
